Introduction to our Compass App (Release Management Integration for Compass)
Release Management delivered Atlassian Compass Integrationsome time ago to enable customers to define Component Releases and manage Dependencies between them. It helps identify dependencies across Compass Components and analyze the work items associated with specific releases and components.
This provided Release Management teams with a clear overview of which components are being released, the teams involved, their interdependencies, and (if applicable) the health status of various components.
We are now closing the loop by providing Engineering Management teams with a comprehensive overview of planned product releases for the components they own. This includes insights into how these releases contribute to broader business or solution-level objectives, the scope of each release beyond the components they directly manage, and any affiliated release information (such as metadata, related work items, and milestones). Last but not least, it offers visibility into how component releases are being propagated from lower to higher environments over time.
The above is delivered through a Compass app — Release Management Integration for Compass — providing Engineering Management teams with a 360-degree view of their components.
How to access in the App?
The App is Free of Charge and is complimentary to your Release Management Cloud license. If you do not have an active Release Management Cloud license you still can install our Compass App but it won’t work.
To install the App you can either go directly to Atlassian Marketplace
.. and click “Get it now“ to install (if you are Admin) or request the Admin to install (if you are not Admin).
You can also do it right from the Compass
.. just click “Manage your apps“ and “Find new apps“
and search for “Release Management …“
Once you have an App installed you can always access it from Component right panel
Key Features
If you are familiar with "Release Management" Panel for Jira issues you will find yourself right at home with our Compass App.
List of Release Boards
The first thing you see when you open our Compass app is a list of Release Boards associated with your component. Specifically, we scan all available boards and their releases, and display only those boards that have at least one release linked to your component.
You can click the Refresh button next to the list to update the results.
If you have only one board associated the App will show the details from this board. Otherwise it picks the last one you visited in Release Management Apps or just the first in the list.
Click on the list to switch between the associated boards.
Upcoming Release Information
Once you have at least on board associated in the list you will see a list of all associated releases, namely:
titles
start and release dates
progress widgets
deep link for details in Release Management App
Put mouse over the Progress Widget to get quick start on your associated release status.
Once you click on the deep link a Release Management App will show up in separate tab to open detailed information about the release
The releases we show have a nested structure, namely:
Component (Product) Releases
Business (Solution) Releases
Thus you can not only see upcoming releases for your Components but also a bigger picture - company wide initiatives or meta-release where the component is involved.
Associated Environments
Last but not the least, we will show all the associated environment where associated release(s) where deployed. Thus you can get a clear overview how the component changes being released and propagated from lower to higher environment over time.
Coming Soon
As of now (June’25) we are releasing MVP version of the App. The below you can find some ideas on the direction we would like to develop the App. Please also feel free to reach out contact details below to share your ideas with us - we are keen to it.
